Superintendent's Message to the Community

Superintendent's Message to the Community As I look around the District, I am amazed at all of the great things that are taking place in our schools.  From the day to day occurrences that teachers and staff are sharing on Twitter using the hashtag #NRInspireGreat, to the construction occurring at the high school/middle school complex and the new elementary school site, the North Royalton City Schools continue to move each and every day from good to great.

The start of the 2019-20 school year begins my seventh year as superintendent of the North Royalton City School District and it continues to be my honor and pleasure to the communities of North Royalton and Broadview Heights. Working side by side with our fine educators, staff, students and community has been rewarding for me and I remain dedicated to ensuring a quality education for every child in our community. Living in the community, as well as having three daughters who graduated from this District, gives me a perspective of the needs and challenges that families face each and every day. My goal is always to foster open communication and to look for new and effective ways to assure that everyone is up to date with the latest happenings in our District.  This new and improved website will hopefully aid in that communication.

As I stated, our District is in the midst of a major construction project that includes a new 100,000 square foot addition to the high school, as well as renovating 144,000 square feet of existing space.  This construction began in March 2019 and the new addition is on schedule to open in the fall 2020, with the remainder of the renovations begin completed by December 2021.  The middle school project thus far has seen roof repairs and tuck pointing to the exterior of the building along with HVAC renovations being competed to the gym.  A new safe and secure entrance way greeted students, staff and parents at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. At the elementary site, located on the southwest corner of State Road and Valley Parkway, construction has begun of the new 147,000 square foot North Royalton Elementary School which will be open in August 2021.  These projects are able to be completed due to the overwhelming support of the community on May 2, 2017 when an $88.9 million bond issue was approved.  Please take some time to browse our website to stay up to date on the progress of the projects at http://www.northroyaltonsd.org/facilitiesupdate.aspx.

Even with the passage of the bond issue, there is always the issue of the state budget and its impact on our District. In North Royalton, we have historically offered the finest quality education while at the same time being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers. We will continue to make sure that while operating on one of the lowest per pupil expenditures in the county, our students will receive the same quality education that the communities of North Royalton and Broadview Heights have come to expect.
