Albion Elementary and Valley Vista Elementary Schools Receive “Overall A” Award from State of Ohio

Albion Elementary and Valley Vista Elementary Schools were recognized by the State Board of Education and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria for achieving high performance and outstanding progress and momentum for students.  Both schools received the “Overall A” award for earning an “A” on the state report card.  For Albion Elementary, this is the second time to receive the award.

“The North Royalton City Schools provide a high-quality education for our students and this award is an example of that,'' said Superintendent Greg Gurka, North Royalton City Schools. “Both Albion and Valley Vista, as well as our entire District, live our vision of identifying individual student needs and providing comprehensive support.  I am very proud of the students, staff and communities of our schools.  With our new elementary school scheduled to open in the fall of 2021, teacher and student collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking opportunities will increase and allow our students to achieve at their fullest potential.”

“I am so glad that Albion’s students are being recognized with this honor for a second year in a row,” said Principal Vince Ketterer, Albion Elementary School.  “We have supportive families, hard-working students and a staff that believes in kids.  At Albion Elementary, we challenge and support every child, every day.  Together, our Albion community has created a culture of success, purpose and pride.”

“Our goal is to inspire and empower learners and the Valley Vista staff is the key to our success,” said Principal Jeff Hill, Valley Vista Elementary School.  “They do a fantastic job of working together to effectively meet the needs of all learners. Academic growth, student achievement, and effective collaboration and intervention are vital to our student success. We truly appreciate the efforts and commitment of our Valley Vista students for their drive in working to grow academically throughout the school year. This is a wonderful example of when home and school work together, great things can happen.”

“The students, teachers, administrators and staff honored today are shining examples to peers and colleagues around Ohio,” said State Board of Education President Laura Kohler. “We are so proud of these award recipients and the effort they put into learning, leading and growing every day. We are both encouraged and challenged by the example of excellence they are setting.”
