North Royalton City Schools Recognizes 2016 "Friends of Education"
At the May 9 North Royalton Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Greg Gurka announced that Marlyn Cerino and Leslie and Sean Stetler were the 2015-16 “Friends of Education.” This annual award goes to a person or persons who have greatly contributed to the school district and helped inspire and empower students and make North Royalton a great place. 
Valley Vista Elementary Named 2016 Hall of Fame School
The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) announced that Valley Vista Elementary in the North Royalton School District has been selected as a 2016 Hall of Fame School. Principal Jeff Hill and his staff will be presented with the award, including $1,000 to be used at the principal’s discretion. OAESA will recognize seven winners of the Hall of Fame Award during an Awards Luncheon to be held June 17, 2016, at the Hilton Columbus at Easton. “We are so proud of being recognized by the OAESA as a Hall of Fame school,” said Jeff Hill, Principal, Valley Vista Elementary.

North Royalton Board of Education Announces Schedule for Series of Community Meetings

In order to discuss the educational vision of the North Royalton School District with its residents, the North Royalton Board of Education is inviting the community to a series of meetings for input on the recent recommendations from the Community Engagement Taskforce. The committee has recommended a plan to address the needs of all students and provide the opportunities and classes required for 21st century learning. The plan includes building a new elementary school; renovating the middle school; and demolishing/rebuilding all portions of the high school built prior to 1976 and renovating portions built after 1976.

These community meetings will be held on Tuesday, March 22 in the North Royalton High School community room; Wednesday, April 6 in the Valley Vista Elementary School cafeteria; Wednesday, April 13 in the North Royalton Middle School purple gym; Tuesday, April 19 in the Albion Elementary School cafeteria; and Wednesday, April 27 in the Royal View Elementary School cafeteria. All meetings will begin at 7pm.


 
North Royalton City Schools Announce 2016 Teacher and Support Staff Person of the Year
North Royalton City Schools has announced the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Person of the Year and will recognize both individuals at the North Royalton Educational Foundation’s reception on Tuesday, April 26. The Teacher of the Year is Kami Likovic, an intervention specialist for students with special needs at North Royalton Middle School. The Support Staff Person of the Year is Cindy Sostakowski. Cindy has been a cleaner with the North Royalton School District at Valley Vista Elementary School since 2009.  
Superintendent Delivers State of the Schools Address
On February 17, Superintendent Greg Gurka delivered his annual State of the Schools address at the North Royalton Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at Carrie Cerino's.  His message focused on taking our district from "good" to "great" through unveiling an educational vision that provides all the necessary tools for a 21st century education.  Click here to view his presentation. 
Valley Vista Elementary Students Send "Paper Hugs" and Care Packages to Troops
On Wednesday, February 17, Valley Vista Elementary students and PTA parents put together care packages with “paper hugs” to send to those serving in the military. Students were inspired to take on this project through a book they had been reading called “Paper Hugs.”

Kindergarten Registration for the 2016-17 School Year Begins February 1
If your child will be 5 years old by September 30, 2016 and you are a resident of the North Royalton City School District, you are invited to register your child for Kindergarten. Starting February 1, 2016 you will be able to complete the online Pre-Registration which is a MANDATORY first step in the process. Check the website (CLICK HERE) beginning the first week of February for more information on the Pre-Registration process and more information on Kindergarten Registration. The dates for registration are February 23rd from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm and February 24th from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Crystal Starfish 1st Semester Award Recipients Announced
On December 11, North Royalton City Schools announced the winners of the first semester North Royalton City Schools Crystal Starfish Award presented by the First Federal of Lakewood. At Valley Vista Elementary School, reading intervention teacher, Mrs. Jill Gutia was presented the Crystal Starfish Teacher Award. At North Royalton High School, attendance secretary Mrs. Cheryl Kloscak was the recipient of the Crystal Starfish Support Staff Award. 
Valley Vista Kindergarten Class Skypes with Class in Bromsgrove, England
Valley Vista Elementary’s kindergarten teacher Deanna Gordon is bringing cultural awareness to her class for the third year in a row. On Friday, November 20, the class had a Skype session with Clare Cattell's Kindergarten class at Bromsgrove School in Bromsgrove, England. The children shared information about weather, holidays, favorite books and favorite places to visit. The Valley Vista children also sang a song about their love for America to the children in England.

Parents interested in purchasing Student Accident & Sickness Insurance for the 2015-16 school year should download the attachments for more information. Please discard all applications from the 2014-15 year as they will not be accepted. 

 
North Royalton City Schools Named one of Top Workplaces of 2015
North Royalton City Schools is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of Top Workplaces of 2015. The Top Workplaces are determined based solely on employee feedback. The employee survey is conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a research firm on organizational health and employee engagement.

“The mission of the North Royalton Schools is to inspire and empower learners,” said Superintendent Greg Gurka, North Royalton City Schools. “ This is done through a collective, collaborative effort of all of our staff. North Royalton City Schools Begin Using SaferOH Tipline
North Royalton City Schools has begun using a new safety resource, SaferOH, for its anonymous tip line that is free of charge. The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety established this service in response to Governor Kasich's comprehensive school safety plan. The tip line will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day for registered schools. The district has cancelled its previous service and will save approximately $3,700 a year. 
Valley Vista's Math and Reading Homework
We all know the importance of reading and math in school, as well as in life! Elementary school age is a critical period in the development of reading and math skills and in formation of lifelong habits.
