Valley Vista Elementary Students Have a Lot of S.O.L.E. Valley Vista Elementary Students Have a Lot of S.O.L.E.
Staff members at Valley Vista are using a new form of instruction in their classrooms, and it is making quite a difference with student involvement and excitement in their learning. S.O.L.E., which stands for Self-Organized Learning Environment, gets students engaged in their learning. Both teachers and students shared their experiences at the April 10 North Royalton Board of Education meeting. It incorporates collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. These are skills that future employers are looking for in college graduates today. Problem solving skills are appropriate for all future careers and the real life experiences ahead. The idea behind using S.O.L.E. is to use higher levels of cognitive ability including creativity, evaluating, analyzing, and applying. It requires students to work together and, at times, think outside of the box to solve problems and analyze their work rather than simply memorizing data. Students are presented an analytical question, and they then work in groups using the Internet, Chromebooks, and one another to investigate and then report back to their classmates.

Ukulele Donations for Music Room Ukulele Donations for Music Room
Valley Vista would like to thank the generosity of Kala Brand Music in Petaluma, California for the donation of 40 ukuleles to the music classroom. Kala Brand Music is a California based company that specializes in building quality ukuleles. Based on "likes" and "shares" of the companies facebook page, as well as emailed request of Mrs. Burrows (music teacher), Valley Vista was able to receive the 40 ukuleles free of charge.
Students in third grade will spend the late Spring learning how to play the ukulele, however, all students grades K-4 will experience the ukuleles throughout the school year. Ukuleles are a popular choice instrument because the size, mellow sound, portability and diversity of the instrument (solo or ensemble) and music selections available. Once again I would like to extend a thank you Kala Brand Music for the donation of 40 ukuleles to the Valley Vista music room!

Community Meeting Image District Holds Meeting on January 4 to Discuss Future of Facilities
On Wednesday, January 4, the North Royalton Board of Education held a special meeting at North Royalton High School to discuss with residents the decisions that need to be made regarding the district’s facilities and future of educational learning in North Royalton. With more than 200 people in attendance, two plans were presented to residents. Plan A is to place the same bond issue that went before voters in November 2016 on the May 2, 2017 ballot. This is a 3.1 (true tax impact) mill for a new elementary school, complete high school renovation and addition, middle school updates, and repairs and long-term facility maintenance. Plan B is to evaluate what to do if the issue is not placed on the ballot or if the issue fails.
