The mission of our school media center is to support and enhance the broader school curriculum in an effort to encourage students to become life-long independent readers and learners.
All students have two half-hour Library/Media classes each week. Our checkout system is automated through NCC which is a part of the INFOhio Network. Overdue fines are not charged in the elementary school libraries, however, students with lost or damaged books will be billed a replacement cost.
Media lessons are created using the Ohio Academic Content Standards for School Libraries and the larger individual grade-level curricula standards as guides. There is a special emphasis on fiction vs. nonfiction in the early grades. By third and fourth grade, students use the Dewey Decimal System and the online school library catalog, as well as print and online reference sources. Students are exposed to various media formats including print, internet, e-reader, and video/DVD.
