WHO
: WEB Leaders are selected 8th graders. Mrs. Paolino, Mrs. Connelly, Mrs. Kusmirek and Mrs. Balicki are the WEB Coordinators.
WHAT
: WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) is an orientation and transition program. On WEB Orientation day, WEB Leaders work to make the transition from elementary to middle school as comfortable as possible by engaging the 5th graders in small group orientation activities, providing words of wisdom to the 5th graders on how to succeed in middle school, and taking the 5th graders on a school tour. As the school year progresses, the WEB leaders and 5th graders get together for social activities. There are monthly WEB Leader activities/meetings to further encourage the WEB Leaders to mentor the 5th graders and assist them with academic and social concerns.
WHEN
: The WEB Program is designed to operate from May to May each year. The primary focus is preparing the WEB Leaders for the WEB Orientation Day and includes the Spring Play Day in May, two 5 hour training days in August and the WEB Orientation day shortly before school starts. Eighth grade WEB leaders also assist the 5th grade students on the first day of school by welcoming the 5th graders to the middle school, helping them find their classrooms, re-teaching students how to open their lockers etc.
HOW
: Seventh grade students are recruited in March/April each year and complete a selection process. Once selected, the future WEB leaders participate in Spring Play Day in May to orient them to the WEB program. There are two mandatory 5 hour training dates in August to prepare the WEB Leaders to facilitate the WEB Orientation. Once students complete the 2-five hour training sessions, they are official WEB Leaders and receive a WEB Leader t-shirt. WEB Leaders are required to attend and help facilitate the WEB Orientation in late August prior to the start of school and to participate in the monthly WEB Leader meetings (during the school day) as the year progresses.
