Welcome to North Royalton Middle School, it is truly an honor to be the principal at NRMS and serve the fifth through eighth-grade students of both North Royalton and Broadview Heights. I have spent my entire career in the middle school setting and truly believe this is such a special time in student’s and family’s lives. As a member of the Ohio Middle Level Association and Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators, I recognize the importance of striving to embed the 18 characteristics of This We Believe into our culture. This We Believe is the position paper, published by the Association for Middle Level Education, which outlines how to successfully educate students in the middle. Building positive relationships with all, differentiating instruction to meet varying students’ needs, and working collaboratively with all stakeholder groups is just a small sample of how we at NRMS try to exemplify and implement middle level best practices.

The teachers, support staff, and administrators of North Royalton Middle School are committed to making your student’s middle school experience a special one. Our team of adults recognizes the importance of building relationships with our students, as it provides an important sense of connection and belonging. Establishing these positive relationships allows us to inspire students in their own vision of success, and empowers them to make that vision a reality.

About North Royalton Middle School . . .

North Royalton Middle School began in 1989 as a part of the high school campus, serving grades six, seven, and eight. In 1996, North Royalton Middle School opened and was Ohio’s largest facility utilizing a geothermal heating and air conditioning system, which saves the district 20% - 40% annually. In addition to conserving energy, the building was constructed as a middle school; thus, its design meets the needs of the fifth through eighth grade students that it serves.

North Royalton Middle School is 239,000 square feet and is able to accommodate 1,600 students. Currently, NRMS has approximately 90 teachers that instruct roughly 1,300 students. Upon arriving to NRMS, students, parents, teachers and community members enter into a secure reception area. The building has two academic wings, consisting of two floors. Each floor is designed as a grade-level pod with the science labs in the center. The fine arts department is located in the front of the building and contains separate band and choir rooms. NRMS has two gymnasiums that are used both during and after the school day for academic and co-curricular activities. The media center, remodeled in 2021, houses large and small group meeting spaces that are utilized by classes and students. The media center also includes a loft where meetings are held and interdisciplinary teams host student recognition assemblies. NRMS issues a Chromebook device to all students in grades 5 through 8.

The safety of each student at NRMS is of the utmost importance; consequently, each door is locked during school hours. Only teachers and staff with the proper identification and badge can gain access. Furthermore, the school’s main entrance, as well as other entry points and many areas of the school are monitored by video surveillance.

North Royalton Middle School day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. NRMS’s flexible schedule allows for interdisciplinary teams to create learning activities that extend past the class period. Moreover, the schedule also embraces a flex period where teachers can meet the individual needs of all learners.
