Congratulations Teacher and Staff Member of the Year
North Royalton City Schools celebrated the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Person of the Year and by recognizing both individuals at the North Royalton Educational Foundation’s reception on Tuesday, April 25. They also were recognized at the May 8 Board of Education meeting. Congratulations to Teacher of the Year Mrs. LeeAnn Morris and Staff Member of the Year Beth Machusick.
The Teacher of the Year is Mrs. LeeAnn Morris, a first grade teacher at Royal View Elementary. Mrs. Morris has been a teacher in the North Royalton City Schools for the past 23 years. “Not only is she a dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher, but she is also the consummate team player who is always willing to help anyone in need at Royal View,” said Greg Gurka, superintendent, North Royalton City Schools. “LeeAnn has been a wonderful co-teacher in the first grade for a number of years and has made a lasting impact not only on the students she serves, but also the intervention specialists she has teamed with. LeeAnn works hard to communicate with her students at their level, respectfully approaching them while using positive reinforcement as a way to motivate and instill confidence.”
“LeeAnn is also one of those rare individuals who has earned the respect of every single educator who works in our building, primarily because they recognize her as one of the hardest working staff members at Royal View,” said Kirk Pavelich, principal, Royal View Elementary. “She routinely spends hours before and after school, perfecting her lessons and preparing for the next day. In addition, she consistently attends just about every school function and activity that takes place outside the scope of the normal workday. LeeAnn has attended Royal View's Cedar Point Family Day each of the three years we've organized the event, once driving more than 11 hours with her husband Jerry the day before from their vacation in Missouri just to spend time with Royal View students, staff, and families.”
Mrs. Morris has also been an instrumental team member on Royal View's Literacy Committee, helping the building establish the tradition of Family Literacy Night each March. She has also been frequently spotted at events such as the Fall Festival and other PTA-sponsored activities.
“LeeAnn is an outstanding colleague and fantastic teacher committed to creating a positive learning environment for all of her students,” said Pavelich. “She is an exceptional communicator, ensuring that her co-teacher and all key support people are well informed at all times. Her positive attitude, enthusiasm, knowledge, and compassion, are some of the attributes that make LeeAnn such an outstanding teacher at Royal View Elementary.”
The Support Staff Person of the Year is Beth Machusick, a paraprofessional at North Royalton Middle School. Mrs. Machusick has worked in many different classrooms and with many different teachers during her tenure in North Royalton. “Beth is an ardent supporter of helping students and develops meaningful relationships with each and every one of them,” said North Royalton Middle School Principal Jeff Cicerchi. In addition, she is an advocate for all staff as she serves in a leadership role for the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) union.
