North Royalton High School (NRHS) junior Lillian Skudrin recently represented the District as the first NRHS student to be accepted into and complete LAB Week — a competitive, week-long summer business program often referred to by organizers as a “mini MBA for high school students.”
LAB Week brings together motivated students from across the region for an immersive experience in entrepreneurship, leadership, and business strategy. To participate, students must apply, secure a recommendation, and be selected based on their academic achievement, leadership qualities, and interest in business.
Throughout the week, Skudrin took part in a range of activities designed to simulate real-world business challenges. She explored how small businesses are launched and scaled, participated in interactive sessions on mindfulness and leadership, and worked in teams to develop creative solutions to business problems. A highlight of the week included a Pitch Challenge, where students used artificial intelligence tools to design a product and present a compelling business pitch to peers and professionals.
At the conclusion of LAB Week, all students—including Skudrin—were awarded a $1,000 per year scholarship to Lake Erie College, along with a certificate recognizing their successful completion of the program.
“Lillian took the initiative to challenge herself by attending LAB Week,” said Principal Kristin Hubbell, North Royalton High School. “We are proud of her accomplishments and encourage other students to follow in her footsteps.”
“I loved that I got to challenge myself individually and challenge my ability to lead in a group setting,” said Skudrin. “I made great friends alongside learning business and I'm grateful for the connections I was able to make.”
Skudrin returns to North Royalton this fall with new insights, enhanced skills, and a valuable experience that will no doubt shape her future academic and career pursuits.
