The North Royalton City Schools has announced that Katie Bober will serve as the newest assistant principal at North Royalton Elementary School. She will assume the role for the 2026–27 school year, replacing Mike McGinnis, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.
Bober currently serves as the district’s Literacy Coach and has played a pivotal role in strengthening literacy initiatives across North Royalton Elementary School. She works closely with teachers and teacher teams to support reading instruction across grade levels. Since joining the district in August 2022, she has led innovative programs designed to foster a culture of reading both in the classroom and at home.
Among her signature initiatives is the Bear Buddy Readers program, which pairs classrooms across grade levels to read together monthly, building mentorship and literacy skills among students. She also helped launch the school’s popular Book Vending Machine program, providing students with opportunities to select books of their choice as a reward for literacy growth and achievement.
Through the Ellie Rechkemmer Memorial Literacy Fund, Bober secured a grant and collaborated with the Literacy Committee to establish the NRES Whole School Book Club (One School, One Book). This initiative provides a shared chapter book to every family, from preschool through grade four, encouraging school-wide engagement through book-related activities, trivia, a community scavenger hunt, and a family literacy night. The program’s goal is to strengthen the home-school connection while building a lasting culture of reading within the community.
“Katie has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to literacy and student growth,” said Superintendent Michael Laub, North Royalton City Schools. “Her ability to bring students, staff, and families together through meaningful learning experiences makes her a tremendous asset to our administrative team.”
Bober brings more than 18 years of educational experience to her new role. Prior to joining North Royalton, she served five years in the Medina City School District as a Curriculum Specialist and fourth-grade teacher. She also spent nine years with Madison Local Schools as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher.
She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education with a minor in mathematics from University of Mount Union and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Teacher Leadership from Ashland University. She has also completed coursework to obtain her Principal’s Licensure.
Bober will join the North Royalton Elementary School administrative team alongside Principal Vince Ketterer and Assistant Principals David Guciardo and Leslie Smith.
“I am truly honored to continue serving the students, staff, and families of North Royalton and Broadview Heights in this new role,” said Bober. “I feel incredibly lucky to work with such talented and dedicated educators who inspire students every day. I look forward to supporting our teachers and helping our students reach their full potential while becoming lifelong, confident learners.”
North Royalton City Schools congratulates Katie Bober on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to her continued leadership in advancing teaching and learning at North Royalton Elementary School.
