North Royalton Middle School is celebrating a significant artistic achievement as sixth-grade student Abigail Janatovich has been named a Regional Award winner in the 2026 Juried Exhibition of Student Art, presented by the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
Janatovich was selected as one of just 120 Regional Winners from a competitive pool of more than 8,000 student entries submitted by schools across Ohio. Her piece, “The World Around Music,” was created using colored pencil, alcohol marker, and charcoal, and was chosen through a juried process recognizing outstanding student creativity and artistic skill.
The Juried Exhibition of Student Art was introduced in Ohio for the first time in 2026, expanding a nationally recognized program that celebrates excellence in visual arts while connecting it to the world of music. The competition aims to encourage young artists, promote the importance of the arts, and inspire future creative pursuits.
“We are extremely proud of Abigail and the beautiful artwork she submitted,” said Art Teacher Jennifer Harold. “This recognition reflects not only her talent, but also her creativity and dedication to her craft.”
As a regional winner, Janatovich will receive a Certificate of Merit and a $25 cash prize. She will also be honored at the Juried Exhibition of Student Art Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 2 at 3 p.m. at the McCoy Center for the Performing Arts in New Albany, where more than $18,000 in prizes will be awarded to students and schools.
“Abigail’s achievement highlights the strength of the North Royalton Middle School art program and the district’s continued commitment to fostering student creativity and expression,” said Principal Erin Calabrese.
