North Royalton City Schools is proud to recognize two outstanding individuals whose dedication, compassion, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on the district. Lourena (Chris) Roach, English language arts teacher at North Royalton High School, has been named the 2025–26 Teacher of the Year, and Cheryl Anderson, secretary at North Royalton High School, has been named Support Staff Person of the Year.
Chris Roach is celebrated for her exceptional leadership, innovative teaching, and unwavering focus on student success. She played a key role in the development and implementation of the school’s AP Seminar course, thoughtfully helping design a two-tiered English 10 system that integrates ELA standards with AP-level expectations. Her forward-thinking approach ensures that students are challenged while remaining supported in a rigorous and engaging learning environment.
In the classroom, Roach fosters a culture where student voice, creativity, and ownership of learning are prioritized. Her commitment to innovation was evident when a student’s research work in her AP Seminar class led to participation on the district’s AI Task Force. Beyond instruction, she is an active collaborator, contributing to Teacher-Based Teams, mentoring colleagues, and supporting students across grade levels. She also dedicates countless hours as the yearbook advisor, working alongside students to create a meaningful and lasting publication.
Roach’s impact extends far beyond academics. Known for building strong relationships, she is frequently recognized by students during appreciation events, a testament to her influence and care. She exemplifies “The Bear Way” through mindfulness, kindness, integrity, and resilience, consistently going above and beyond to ensure every student feels valued and empowered.
