North Royalton Middle School Sixth Graders Make a Lasting Impact Through Community Service Days

North Royalton Middle School sixth graders recently took learning beyond the classroom and into the community during their annual Service Days, an initiative led by teachers Nicole Farah and Joanne Carnabuci in partnership with the City of North Royalton and the Office of the Mayor.

Organized by team, nearly 300 students participated across three separate days in May. The Champion Team kicked off the effort on May 14, followed by the MVP Team on May 19 and the All-Star Team on May 21. Each group spent the afternoon walking with their teachers to various locations throughout the city, including City Greens, Memorial Park, and the North Royalton City Cemetery.

During each Service Day, students dedicated approximately two hours to hands-on projects aimed at improving and beautifying the community. Their efforts included cleaning veteran headstones and placing flags at the cemetery, as well as weeding, mulching, picking up trash, and maintaining flower beds in local parks.

Students were prepared for the experience through classroom presentations that outlined expectations and emphasized the importance of community service. Throughout the day, they were supervised by their team of teachers, ensuring a safe and meaningful experience from start to finish.

The Service Days initiative was created to help students develop a sense of pride in their city while learning the value of giving back. By working side by side with classmates and teachers, students practiced collaboration, responsibility, and teamwork in a real-world setting.

The impact of the experience extended beyond the physical improvements made across the city. Sixth graders gained a deeper understanding of how small acts of service can make a meaningful difference and how working together can strengthen a community.

Through Service Days, North Royalton Middle School continues to foster a culture where students are encouraged to become active, engaged citizens who are ready to contribute to their community now and in the future.
