career week

Students at North Royalton Elementary School spent the week exploring future possibilities during the school’s annual Career Week celebration, held May 26-29.

The week combined career awareness activities with a fun spirit week designed to encourage students to think about their goals, interests and future opportunities.

Each day featured a different theme tied to careers and future success. Students celebrated “I Have BIG Dreams” day in pajamas and comfy clothes, followed by “Our Futures Are Bright” day where students wore neon colors and sunglasses. On Thursday, students showed their school pride by wearing purple and gold for “College and Career Begin Here.” The week concluded with Career Day, where students dressed as their favorite careers, including doctors, teachers, chefs, police officers, veterinarians, pilots and many more.

Throughout the week, students also had the opportunity to hear directly from parents, community members and volunteers representing a wide variety of careers. Presenters shared how they help others through their work and explained the skills needed for success in their fields.

Students learned about careers in healthcare from nurses, operating room staff, anesthesia specialists, physical therapists, emergency veterinarians and a life flight critical care nurse practitioner who transports critically ill patients by helicopter. Volunteers also discussed careers caring for premature infants, helping patients with dietary needs, running the heart-lung machine during open-heart surgery and managing medical imaging departments including X-ray, MRI and ultrasound.

Career speakers also represented careers in public safety, law and government, including mounted police officers, patrol officers, firefighters, federal prosecutors, law directors and city council representatives. Students heard about careers in engineering, software development, artificial intelligence, genetics, communications, data science and automotive innovation, including work developing new technology for Goodyear tires.

Additional presenters highlighted careers in aviation, commercial trucking, semi-truck repair, power line work, finance, real estate, project management, education and criminal justice. Creative careers were also represented through photography, art, cake decorating, baking, dog grooming, bridal hair and makeup, and marketing.

Volunteers emphasized how their careers help people every day, whether by saving lives, solving problems, educating others, creating new technology or supporting the community.

Career Week helps elementary students begin thinking about the many opportunities available to them while connecting classroom learning to real-world careers. Through discussions, presentations and dress-up activities, students were encouraged to dream big and explore the talents and interests that may shape their future paths.
