North Royalton Elementary School celebrated Start With Hello Week the week of October 5, with spirit days and activities reminding students that NORO Bears look out for one another.

Start With Hello encourages students to recognize when someone may feel left out, reach out and help others feel welcome and included. Throughout the week, NRES students had fun dressing for daily themes while learning how simple actions can help make their school a kinder, more welcoming place.

Monday kicked off with “Hello Cleveland,” as students wore gear representing their favorite sports teams. On Tuesday, students were encouraged to “Be a Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud” by wearing rainbow colors. Wednesday was “Welcome Wednesday,” with students wearing green, purple or shirts featuring positive messages. Thursday’s “Be Brave! Be an Upstander!” theme invited students to dress in their favorite superhero clothing and encouraged them to stand up for others.

“Start With Hello is really about the little things our students can do every day to make someone else feel like they belong,” said Principal Vince Ketterer. “A simple hello, inviting someone to join you or noticing when a classmate needs a friend can mean so much. When we see our students doing those things, we also see so many of the qualities we want to develop through our Portrait of a Bear, especially empathy, communication and leadership. It’s exciting to watch those qualities come to life in such genuine ways with our youngest Bears.”
