For the first time in more than two decades, North Royalton High School’s Royal Harmony has achieved a “1” Superior Rating at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Adjudicated Contest—marking a milestone moment for the ensemble and its long tradition of excellence.
The prestigious rating represents the highest honor awarded at the state level and reflects months of dedication, preparation, and musical growth by the student performers. Royal Harmony delivered a powerful and expressive performance that showcased not only their vocal talent, but also their deep connection to the music.
An OMEA Adjudicated Contest is a comprehensive evaluation designed to support educational growth, emphasizing music literacy, technical skill, and the rehearsal process. Ensembles are assessed on prepared selections as well as sight-reading, challenging students to demonstrate both preparation and musicianship in real time.
“It has been truly beneficial for our students to follow this steadfast process and succeed in all elements—both their prepared pieces and sight reading,” said Director of Choirs Sydney Jahnigen. “After receiving incredible feedback at the district level, Royal Harmony was able to push past their potential and broaden their music-making to achieve these high marks. They were connected to their pieces on many levels, which made for a passionate performance. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Royal Harmony’s program featured a diverse and moving repertoire, including “Soon We Will Be Done,” “Ubi Caritas,” and “Like a River in My Soul,” each performed with artistry and emotion.
This Superior Rating marks the group’s first such achievement in 23 years, highlighting a significant accomplishment for North Royalton City Schools and reinforcing the strength of its music education program.
