Gage Johnson is a senior at North Royalton High School and a student in the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s (CVCC) Auto Service Technology program, taught by Jamie Yax. When Gage learned about the opportunity to attend CVCC, he saw it as the perfect way to get more involved and stay busy in his free time.
Since joining CVCC, Gage says his critical thinking skills have grown significantly, thanks to the challenges presented by his instructor and the program. One of his standout moments so far has been working on a Camaro that has been at the school for years and seeing it run for the first time. "It's amazing to be given a task in the lab, work through it from start to finish, and see the results of what you've accomplished."
Gage has also enjoyed learning about suspension systems, especially understanding how steering works. Currently, his class is focusing on engine components, which he finds challenging but rewarding. He appreciates the valuable knowledge and life skill she's gaining, which will benefit him regardless of his career path.
Outside of CVCC, Gage enjoys spending time with family and friends. After graduation, he plans to continue advancing in the auto industry and hopes to one day own his own shop. His advice to anyone considering CVCC is to "go for it," as there's no downside to trying it out. In his words, "It could be one of the best decisions you make for yourself."
